You will be fine, Jezzy! You're a great writer, so you have nothing to fear.
I'll go check out Arrow of Eloquence when I get a little time later today.
And I like the mini challenges idea.

Hey Jezzy, I think we're all suffering from a bit of burnout from Gothno and NaNo. So December is getting off to a slow start. But that's OK. We have to give ourselves permission to shut down and reboot the system every once in a while. As for specific challenges for each month, I think that's fine as an option, but I also like the idea of being able to pick from whichever one you want each month. It will probably take some time for people to sign on here and start making the boards active too.
So what exactly do you mean by Indie author. Are you talking self publishing?

True. That was all kind of stressful. I think once people recover, we'll start to see more around here. And that should be fun ^^
I meant more like 'If you're doing this challenge, here's a small exercise for you' kind of thing. Like, for Vampires maybe the challenge is to have a scene involving certain elements or 'if you get stuck, use a quote from classic literature'. Just things like that. (I'm probably just rambling by now anyway...)
Independent Author. So basically. I'd have a label (like a small press) but it would be my label and my business. It was just an idea I was kicking around since I'm a little disenchanted with mainstream publishing for the most part. I've been thinking of doing a lot of stuff that way - writing, fashion design and things like that.

OK , I misunderstood what you were getting at with the challenge idea. That could be interesting. As for the independent author idea, I hear you. I have been doing a lot of reading about the publishing industry and it seems like there is not really so of an advantage to going with a big publishing house. Maybe once you're known and they throw big bucks at you, but if you're just setting out it seems like they won't do that much to promote your book anyway. Then the time frame involved, waiting so long for the book to actually come out. The indie options are much faster, though you then have all the responsibility for making it into a professional package. I'm inclined to go the Indie route myself, partly because I don't think I have the personality to deal with the tortuously slow process and partly because my life goal is having books on my shelf that I wrote. Famous author was not really on the list, nice to be, but not essential. I am writing primarily for me. I would love it if people really like my work enough to spend money and make me rich, but I don't have any unrealistic expectations. While I think I can tell a decent story I don't think Stephen King has anything to worry about, at least not anytime soon! I am really serious about pursuing writing and I would like it to generate some income down the road, but I also think that in this economy hardcover books are being priced out of the market and ebooks and print on demand will be the way to go for the future.

Deleted several posts. That was bound to get ugly with me being the way I am right now. I'm going to apologise to canardly here and then I'm going to disappear for a while. I am sorry - I was being desperate and snappish and it's just not needed, no matter how stressed I feel. I just... I really have to get away. Things have been awful the last few days and I just have to stop for a while.
Good luck to all of you. I'm not sure when I'll feel well enough to be back but I hope you all are having a better time of it than I am.

Jezzy, I just want to say that I hope things get better for you. And remember that one of the reasons we're here is for others to have a place to vent and speak their minds. Do what you need to do, make yourself feel better, and we'll be here when you get back. <3

Hey Jezzy, Hope things are better for you. I think we're all tired from the past few months. It's tough to do what we did and still be effective in the real world too.
