Good luck with writing your dark Jack Frost novel Anne. I hope it works out well for you in December.

Hi Anne, Sounds like you had a feast! Good for you, and impressive that you cooked and cranked out 4K! I love your Jack Frost in Russia idea. There's an artist of DeviantArt who is from Russia. He posts photos that are so beautiful they are breathtaking. I think it will be a great setting for your story.
I did indeed finish An Unholy Alliance. But I confess I'm really aggravated today. I went to validate at NaNo, cut and pasted as instructed my almost 63K and they validated me at 50043. What the heck happened to the rest of my words?!?! There's some stuff on the site about drastic differences in word counts due to something with quotation marks, but I am pretty steamed. I am dialog heavy, but I don't understand how the word count could be so off. Anyway, I'm NOT a happy camper. Enough about my angst though. I wish you well with the cranberry stringing and the word crafting!

wolfyone That's awful! 10K words gone just due to dialogue? Did anyone on the site say it was going to be fixed soon? I'm dialogue heavy when normally writing, and when rushed for time and suffering writer's block it gets worse. I hope the NaNoWriMo people (they're HERE~) can get everything all sorted out so that you can get your wordcount back. Congrats on finishing 'An Unholy Alliance', by the way! PS- do you perhaps recall the name of the Russian fellow from dA? I would love to see some of his pictures. ~~~ marielaurant organizes her notes far better than I do, so for the sake of structure and your eyes, I'll organize my own notes better. Here we go~ 1) Jack Frost will be my protagonist, but he will also be 'the villain'. 2) He will be 'a victim of circumstance who couldn't cope' rather than a psychopathic, petty villain. 3) Jack Frost wants revenge on Lel, a former rival for the love of the now deceased Snegurochka (Snegurochka is a Russian fairytale figure; she was the daughter of Spring and Frost, and couldn't feel love. Her mother granted her the power to love, and as soon as she did, she fell in love with Lel, her heart warmed up and she melted. Only the Russians, my friends~) 4)Lel is now all grown up; Jack Frost is targeting not only Lel, but also Lel's granddaughter, Snezhana. 5) Jack Frost's enemy in the book *the good guy* is Nikolai Ivanovich Lebedev. 6) I want to write the book in 2nd and 3rd POV; I want it to sound like a fairy tale being read to the reader. 7) Jack Frost's name in Russian is Ivan Moroz; Snezhana's full name is Snezhana Melorovna Volkova, Lel's full name is Lel Sergeyevich Volkov. 8) Story takes place in the early 1930s in the Soviet Union in Leningrad (this was St. Petersburg from 1924-1991); there will be comrades in ushankas drinking vodka and praising the glory of Mother Russia. Hey, I DID say this was a dark fairytale. I apologize for the overload of notes; my Russophilia has just hit full swing again (I'm actually wearing an ushanka right now, no kidding) and I just had to geek out. Again, feedback would be highly appreciated.

I did talk to someone else who said they did the same thing, cut them off right after the 50K mark, so maybe it was a counter issue. In any case. I know what I did, so it's all good.

@ wolfyone: Thanks! I looked up DeingeL; his photos are utterly breathtaking. And you're right- you know what you did, and that's all that matters. ~~~ Ah, It's been awhile since I've posted on the forums. A lot's been going on, so excuse me if this post is intolerably long. Firstly: more computer trouble. Our anti-virus software subscription ran out; less than 12 hours afterwards, two of our computers were ridden with a virus. Less than 12 hours, I kid you not. After my Mom had to negotiate with a man in India who barely spoke English for two hours, and 8 hours of cyber warfare later, our computers are THANKFULLY fixed, and all of our files are OK. Except for my PC- we tried to tinker with it (because repairing it at a shop would cost about $500, way more than the computer is worth) and my brother thinks that the virus destroyed the harddrive... . So, most of my novel from GothNoWriMo is indeed gone. I'm upset, but not as emotionally destroyed as I had assumed I would be in October. Though it is sad, I need to rewrite anyway. I'm thinking editing/rewriting will be one of my WriYe challenges. Secondly: my Uncle's cancer tests. He took a PET (sp) scan and the results were inconclusive; the doctors are almost positive the cancer is above his shoulders (they think in his mouth- this would make a lot of sense, considering my Uncle both smoked AND chewed tobacco). My family has decided to take the inconclusive test results as a blessing- since PET scans are very sensitive, that should mean that the cancer isn't terminal or spread throughout his body. If it's in one location, it will be easier to quarantine and destroy it. So, for once, good news!! Silver lining, I suppose~ Thirdly: more and more good news, albeit off topic! My mother took me to Joann's so I could purchase supplies for the Christmas presents that I'm making, and I'm utterly thrilled with my buys. This time I only bought the supplies for my Oma's music box (we're going back to buy the other presents next week; Joann's is having a MAJOR sale!). Anyway, the music box is going to be very pretty. I was thinking of taking a video and posting it when it's done if any of you would like to see. Fourthly: The bad news. I'm quite behind on my word-count, but honestly- I'm not going to stress on catching up. This month I just need to tinker with something, not churn out a serious work. If I don't 'win' this month, I'll still feel okay. I know that, come next month, I'll be ready to blast through both challenges (I'm doing HistNo and WriYe). Regardless, I'm happy with my tiny word-count this month, and next year I'm going to aim for some HUGE word-counts before high school comes (I want to go to Oxford University via scholarship, so high school is going to be a lot of work). So, thus ends my rant. I'm in a good mood today, which-considering the circumstances-I'm thankful for. I hope all goes well with you fellow WriYes!

That is GREAT news about your Uncle. PET scans are great about that - it found something in my grandfather that would never have been found otherwise. So yes, inconclusive may be good thing.
I would LOVE to see the music box! I've been meaning to check out music box making supplies, because I have a little idea in my brain, and I wonder if I could make it work. And JoAnn's is quite possible the best store on earth.
And I completely agree with the need to tinker. Frankensnow remains untouched as of now. And lots of luck with your shcolarship!

Hi Anne, Sounds like you have had a full plate. I'm glad the news is good regarding your uncle, sorry the computer virus lost your Gothno work. But you sound ok, so that's the important thing. Have fun with the music box making! I'd love to see the finished product. I'm working on editing this month and have not done nearly as much as I had hoped. But we all pushed the past two months, so a slow December is ok by me. I'm glad you like Deingel's photos. I was pretty much blown away by them.

@ wolfyone: Thank you very much! ~~~ Hey there, everyone! I apologize for disappearing back there, life has been hectic. Anyway, I need a little help. Next month I've decided to edit/rewrite my WriMo novel, Samhain. However, I hate the title. I loathe it with a burning passion. No one can pronounce it, it translates to 'November' in modern Irish, and it just plain doesn't fit the plot! This is where you all come in. I'd like your opinion on what title would be best. Here's the synopsis I whipped up: Boston University student Samantha “Sam” Parker spends a year abroad in Galway, Ireland, for extra credit on her Psychology course. She buys an old house out in the country because it is cheaper than the dorms, only to find that it’s haunted by the stranded souls of Jack O’ Lantern and his good friend Dr. Faust. Shortly after moving in, the demon Mephistopheles appears and tells all three new roomies they have until Halloween (a few months away) to find redemption, otherwise they will be turned into demons for all eternity. The three are forced to work together to save themselves; along the way, there will be changes of heart, romance, and a leap of faith as the card of second chance comes into play. ~~~ It's not as light-hearted as it sounds, believe you me. Anyway! Here are my top two title ideas: 1) Soul Stealer (Yes, yes- I know stealer isn't a word after 2nd grade.) 2) {Au} Clair De Lune (This translates to 'moonlight' in French {Au translates to by, so 'By The Moonlight'}. I can work the melody into the plot easily. It's also a pun: Mephistopheles means 'hater of light', and I make a lot of allusions to night time in the story. French has an advantage over Gaelic because Gaelic is impossible to pronounce and 'moonlight' in German sounds like Moonshine.) So, there's that. I'd love your feedback!

Hi Anne I love Clair de Lune, but you and I share the misfortune of being fairly well read and educated. I knew the meaning of the title without your translation. Unfortunately I think many of your readers may not get it. The reference may be too hidden for them. For that reason I think Soul Stealer is better, or maybe Stealer of Souls? Right off they would know it was something eerie. Gives lovers of the gothic/horror genre a head's up.

Also, Clair de Lune makes me think of that YA werewolf novel that came out not too long ago. >.< I also think that I like Soul Stealer better, I don't know why... Just so you know, I didn't know you were writing about Mephistopheles when I chose him for In League with Demons. (I just don't want my fellow wrimos to think I'm a copycat. )

I really need to get out of the house and go to a bookstore- I had no idea! xD And it's no problem about Mephistopheles: he's a stock character~ I don't mind at all, and if I did I wouldn't really have the right to. xD

I follow the YA circuit a lot. I was kind of miffed, because I wanted to write a story about a werewolf named Claire... guess that's out. That's true. I'd just hate for anyone to think I'm only using something because someone else did. I really only said that for my own benefit. I'm weird like that.
